KIA ORA KOUTOU – WELCOME TO THE HAPPYZINE COMMUNITY.

Editor’s Pick:

Have you checked out the People’s Times yet?  This New Zealand made website is a news site, for community.  Sort of like Scoop, only more grass roots orientated.  You can post and check out multi-media this site.  Also, if you’re a part of a not-for-profit interest group (such as photography, arts, parenting, sports, discussion groups etc) and you need internet services such as a home page, a blog, a forum to encourage dialogue between members, a place to post images, or even a notices page, this site can help you.  Check it out.  It’s totally free.  Happyzine will be posting good-news blogs there soon too.

Good News Roundup

It’s never too late you know … Old-man whalers are out on the look out for hump back whales on the Cook Straight, and these days – they’re on a mission to save them (The Dominion Post).

A Southland group are on a mission to save the good-vibe of their community! Alexandra may soon have a sculpture of a cherry blossom gracing its town, if Promote Alexandra win their case.  They say this sculpture is just what the town needs to boost morale (Otago Daily Times).

More morale boosting news – a Balclutha bird avairy that was under threat of being shut down will continue to operate, thanks to twenty five submissions to the long term council community plan in South Otago (Otago Daily Times).

Onto environmental news – it’s the ultimate in Eco-Fashion – it’s clothes swapping.  And it’s taking New Zealand by storm.  Helen Manson of East Auckland is organising the latest clothes swap.  Check out this blog for further details.

Go Wanda! Wanda Tate is being celebrated

for planting 2400 trees near her home in Porirua (The Dominion Post).

Keeping with the feminine – the South Taupo Wetland Restoration Project is underway now and naturally there are women at the healm (Department of Conservation).

A little further north, Iwi from Bay of Plenty and Waikato are joining forces to save the Kiwi in their region (DoC).

Onto new discoveries – new flexible solar power panels have been designed that will be installed on roofs like shingles (Science Daily.com).

How’s this for innovative yet common sense thinking?  A growing pool of hospitals are offering farmers markets in their car parks so as to encourage healthy, local food consumption, in America.

Got another spare five minutes?  Check out the new, upgraded Happyzine site.
