Put a Little Colour into Another Woman’s Life

Submitted by on November 2, 2009 – 2:28 pm

And declutter your wardrobe in the process

It’s time to make a change, get rid of the old to make room for the new? Spring clean your wardrobe and donate to a good charity! Girls’ Day Out has the perfect opportunity to get rid of those items no longer needed with Dress for Success and an attempt at creating the World’s Largest Wardrobe.

Dress For Success was established in New Zealand and around the world to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women as they enter or return to the workforce by providing them with the right clothing to get their foot in the door at a job.

Dress For Success provides each woman with a business suit when she has a job interview. When she lands that job, she returns to Dress For Success for up to one week’s worth of business separates. They also have employment retention programmes and offer ongoing support to women building their careers.

By supporting Dress For Success you can put a little colour in another woman’s life, because nobody ever gets a second chance to make a first impression!

We all have things in our wardrobe that no longer fit us, colours don’t suit us, or something our grandma bought us that is just not what we would wear. So it’s time to go through your wardrobe and have a good spring clean.

Expert Stylist and makeover guru, Susana Sarmiento, says your wardrobe can be dissected into four piles.
· Items that haven’t been worn in over 12 months.
· Torn, buttonless and mending
· Sentimental and glam
· The 20% you actually wear!

Get your girlfriends to do the same and remember to wash all the items that you don’t want to keep. Take a look through them…

Ask yourself: Would they be useful for a woman needing to wear them to a job interview? Are they smart? Are they tidy and in good condition? Would you lend them to your best friend to wear to a job interview?

Once you have ticked those boxes you are now ready to help women in need.

Bring at least five items of clothing to the Girls Day Out event and get $2 off your ticket price AND do your bit for a community of women who just need a little helping hand to change their future. Get your friends to do the same and join the Dress For Success mission. Look for Susana Sarmiento at Girls’ Day Out who will be offering makeover tips and style advice.

Girls’ Day Out takes place at ASB Showgrounds from the 20th-22nd of November with tickets available from iTicket or at the door.
