365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation As I Raise My Son and Grow My Good News Website – Blog#8

Submitted by on April 23, 2010 – 10:34 pm

Do you know what happened today? A news paper was delivered to my letter box.  I sat up straight in my camp chair (yes, I don’t have a couch quite yet) when I saw it arriving.  Now it wasn’t the fact that the woman who delivered it knew my name (though that was kind of cool).  It was the fact it’s Friday.  GB Weekly day.  Now I’m the first to admit, it I’m generally not such a fan of newspapers – hence my website.  But this one’s gotten under my skin, and in the nicest possible way.  Something I used to mull over in my days over the Takaka Hill (in the big smokes of Christchurch and Nelson where’s there’s just so much choice), was the huge value of the GB Weekly.  I suppose I do look at it slightly differently because I wrote for it on and off for a year or so and I know how much care and effort the team take to produce a fine publication each week.  But what I like the most about this little paper with the big heart, is that it’s read by nearly every one in Golden Bay.  So it’s a highly focused place to have your say, run an ad, or have an article written about yourself.  And if you make it to the front page of the GB Weekly, you’re  rock star.  You know your little piece of information will be considered by a high percentage of the population.

Here are some snippets from the GB Weekly – they represent the broad spectrum of personalities that make up Golden Bay:

“Collingwood Tavern: Pig Hunting Competition”

“Earth-Spirit Nature Connection, 21-23 May, Tui Tree Field”

“The Anglican Parish family warmly invites you to join us 10am, Takaka …”

“Stressed Tired and Achy? Re balance your body with holistic pulsing”

“Long-term freedom campers outstay their welcome”

“Ash the Sparky – Practicing in the Bay for over 40 years”

“HANDS Autumn family feast and fun.  All welcome”

“ANZAC Day – the debt of gratitude we owe to those people who served in war”

“Dairying not to blame … “

“Trades and Services/Mahi a ratonga”

I like it here.  I like how easy it is to integrate into this community.  Long may the GB Weekly reign.
Today’s rating: 9/10.
