365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – Blog 262 – Outpouring of Kindness in Queensland Typical of Humans

Submitted by on January 13, 2011 – 9:32 pmNo Comment

I heard a Queensland reporter on Radio New Zealand today speaking of the intense flooding currently happening in her community.  Her house had been flooded.

“Have you been offered some support?”asked the radio interviewer

“Oh, immense support, we’ve been flooded (er, scuse the pun) with support,” replied the Brisbane  journalist who went onto say “and people are just giving and giving, it’s just overwhelming, the way we’re helping each other here.  People are putting out calls for help for their neighbours via facebook and the help is coming thick and fast!”

I’ve seen it myself, I have a few friends in Queensland on facebook and they’re using FB to circulate the word for help.  Someone needed high ground for some horses, so the word was put out immediately on FB and I noticed help was offered in the comments.

During these times of such utter, unbelievable disaster, the human spirit tends to step up and give its very best.   Neighbours take care of each other, friends look out for each other, strangers impulsively offer help where they think its needed.  People possess such an aptitude for love and kindness.  This is being proven right now in Queensland and will be proven in the years to come as that community recover from this large-scale.  The thing is, during these times there’s no time to think, analyze, ponder the options, because we all find ourselves right, smack in the moment.  And in the moment our hearts usually dictate what’s said and offered.  Our hearts tend to dictate only good.  Our hearts naturally want the best for each other, and so the quantity of kind acts shoot sky high as we muddle through together.
