We’re All Born Brilliant So Let’s Go Save the Planet!

I’ve got a question for you – did your parents tell you you could do anything with your life? Did they believe in you and your unique strengths, recognising them, and encouraging you to enjoy them? Did they tell you to run with your raw talent, developing it into something that could support you for life?

Or, as a child did you ever have the magnificent experience of knowing someone believed in you? Did you have the feeling that no matter what, you had an inner knowing that couldn’t be dampened?

Though many of us weren’t born into families where our very existence was lovingly affirmed, we were all born into a time where this could be reconciled. We were all born into the opportunity to realise our innate power.

Here’s another question: have you ever had the experience of working within a group culture where you felt totally safe, completely able to be yourself, and perfectly able to voice your deepest needs, emotions, and thoughts? Within this environment, bellies are relaxed, deep air exhaled from the lungs, and the heart expands. Within this type of culture miracles are born, old dreams bubble involuntarily to the surface and suddenly don’t seem so ‘unrealistic’, and new heroes emerge from within previously ‘normal’ people.

We’re all brilliant, some of us simply need a little light to be shone into our shadows.

My father made a point of sitting me down, looking me in the eye, and continuously telling me I was unique, and could do anything I liked with my life. And so I did. And so I am.

I know that those of us with soft, open hearts, innately know true right from wrong. We know when our people are being unjustly treated, and we have the guts to stand up for them. We know when our environment is out of balance, and we have the courage to stand up for it. And we so do it in a way that feels right, respectful, and even joyful because we know our unique strengths, and we’re using them for the good of all.

Those of us who feel clear, good and right within ourselves often go onto become great leaders. Nelson Mandela is one. Gandhi was another. I’m sure you know heroes within your own communities – people who are driven to correct imbalances, and to strive towards an exciting vision of what’s possible.

I believe that with enough encouragement, kindness and self-belief, millions of us are primed to make a huge, positive difference to the state of our environment right now.

Will you be one of them?
