Great idea Alexa ! . We do a lot of tramping and there a many who don’t pay for the use of back country huts. Charging a tourist tax at the airport would help cover for lost revenue here.

I’d like to take this a step further. I think it’s time we introduced an environment tax payable by all visitors to New Zealand. This tax should fill the coffers of the Department of Conservation which should be divided into a conservation arm and a tourism arm.
I can’t understand why this isn’t simple? We are completely set up to collect this entry fee into NZ at our airports and customs desks.
