Launch of 2013 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards
MEDIA RELEASE
The Sustainable Business Network (SBN) announced today that the 2013 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards are now open for nominations.
This year is the 10th anniversary of the awards, which are the pre-eminent and longest-standing sustainable business awards in New Zealand. They recognise and celebrate the efforts of businesses and individuals that have demonstrated progress in sustainability and are reshaping their business models for a more sustainable future.
CEO of the SBN Rachel Brown says that this year the Awards are being restructured to better recognise organisations that are making a real difference to transforming New Zealand’s business landscape.
“This year the awards will focus on four new transformation areas that we believe encapsulate the future direction of sustainability: Renewables; Community; Mega efficiency; and Restorative.”
Within each of these four categories there will be separate awards for Impact (recognising specific programmes, projects or campaigns, or overall businesses that are making a tangible difference) and Innovation (recognising outstanding innovations that are meeting a pressing need). There will also be awards for an individual Sustainability Champion and for Communicating Sustainability.
Entry to the awards is open to all organisations and individuals in New Zealand, and entry is free.
“The awards are open to organisations at all stages of their sustainability journey – from those just starting out to those who are creating new ways of generating profit,” says Rachel.
“The entry process helps you celebrate your achievements and is a really useful means of taking stock of your sustainability progress. Finalists will receive invaluable feedback from our expert judging panel and will have the opportunity to speak and showcase their products or services at the Sustainable City Showcase in Auckland in October.”
Fabian Yukich, Executive Director of Villa Maria Estate, winner of last year’s Sustainable Business of the Year Award says, “the SBN Awards helped provide a catalyst for increased focus on our overall sustainability efforts – to measure what we’re currently doing and achieve continuous improvement.”
Jonathan Lucas, Senior Associate of James & Wells Intellectual Property, which won the 2012 Trailblazer Medium Business Award says, “the SBN Awards helped give us a framework for structuring our sustainability initiatives. As well as helping us understand our goals and what we needed to do to achieve them, the awards also helped us identify our weak points and consequently where we should concentrate our efforts in the future.”
Nominations close on Friday 13 September 2013. To find out more or to enter the NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards go to: www.sustainableawards.org.nz.
