YHA Paihia installs 27 metres of solar panels to harness natural resource of sunny region

Submitted by on September 15, 2015 – 10:53 am

Paihia solarYHA Bay of Islands Paihia is turning to solar panels for its power source and says other YHAs are looking on with interest.

YHA Bay of Islands Paihia Franchise owner, Andy Larsen said “The Bay of Islands’ frequent days of sunshine means these solar panels will produce all the power we need to meet the hostel’s daytime energy needs.”

Using innovative technology to provide a steady supply of clean and renewable energy fits into YHA Bay of Islands Paihia’s long-term plan, and it is a natural fit for the YHA brand and the organisation’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.

On a typical sunny day the solar panels will generate 7,020 watts directly from the sun.

Mr Larsen adds, “It is a nice feeling to know we can embrace the power of the Paihia sun.”
