We’re happy to confirm we have been granted funding for two new full time roles to support ongoing Post EQ needs in the New Brighton Community. They will be 2 year contract initially, with the hope of becoming permanent.

1) The Programme Manager will have good experience in the youthwork sector and also the ability to manage staff and volunteers. They will take responsibility for most of the practical programmes ran by Youth Alive Trust and be able to lead clubs, large events and holiday programmes themselves. They will have good organisational skills, administration skills and be willing to get their hands dirty. They will also take a key role in future projects, including the development of a youth centre. Salary $37,000 – $42,000 depending on experience.

2) The Male Mentor will work with Primary school aged boys, aged 5 – 13, in the local schools and community. They will be self motivated, able to work independently, and professionally in a school environment. They will plan and administer to the needs of the school, including work 1-on-1, and in small groups and joining general school activities. They will have great patience, empathy and have the ability to build good rapport with these ‘at risk’ boys. They will have good organisational skills, administration skills and be willing to join in other general Youth Alive Trust activities and events. Salary $35,000 – $37,500 depending on experience.

Both of these roles will require work outside of office hours, and must be willing to work evenings and weekends when required. There is a degree of flexibility for the right applicant, therefore we’re open to working around your situation.

They will be based at our offices at Grace Vineyard Beach Campus in New Brighton. The successful applicants will be viewed as church leadership, and will attend church staff meetings, trainings and events. They will also be expected to join the church congregation, therefore it is vital that any applicant aligns with the views and beliefs of the trust deed and church. Please see the respective websites for more details.

Applications are invited for the positions of Intern-Writers and Intern-Sub Editors for Term 2 (Monday 23 April – Friday 29 June) of the 2012 New Zealand school year.

Intern-Writers

Some previous writing experience is necessary, though a natural aptitude and love for writing is the most important attribute required. Intern-Writers who are accepted into the Happyzine programme must be prepared to submit four pieces of work (articles or blogs) during the course of one term, including at least one good quality image. Intern-Writers will experience: working to dead-line, researching and writing seriously positive pieces of work, interviewing, transcribing, crafting a well structured piece of writing, submitting work that’s in alignment with the Happyzine ethos and is of high quality, and having their work Edited.

Writers can live anywhere as all work and communication will be online, though some familiarity with the New Zealand culture and language is preferred as our audience are primarily Kiwi.

Positions available: 5

To apply send one 300 word article and one image to charlotte@happyzine.co.nz

Intern-Sub Editors

Sub Editors must have proven writing experience and a passion for creating flow, structure and excellent grammar and spelling within written pieces. It would also be useful to have some experience working in the back-end of blogs. Sub Editors will be required to edit four to six original articles or blogs and to post up press-releases so that they’re ready to be published on Happyzine. These tasks include checking spelling and grammar, ensuring the story flows and makes sense, ensuring the story sits well within the Happyzine ethos, polishing structure and checking that articles are factually and ethically right for Happyzine. Sub Editors will need to work to dead-lines and will need to have an excellent eye for detail.

Sub Editors can live anywhere as all work and communication will be online, though some familiarity with the New Zealand culture and language is preferred as our audience are primarily Kiwi.

Positions available: 3

To apply send a cover letter and an example of a previously written article to charlotte@happyzine.co.nz

Intern Positions will be available during each New Zealand school term.

Term 1 – Monday 30 Jan and Tuesday Feb 7 – Thursday April 5

Term 2 – Monday 23 April – Friday 29 June

Term 3 – Monday 16 July – Friday 28 September

Term 4 – Monday 15 October – no later than Friday 14 December

Note: Intern positions can be planned to work with course requirements.

The recently launched website Do Good Jobs (dogoodjobs.co.nz) is a new ethical online jobs board. It aims to link passionate, talented, “do-gooders” with job vacancies in New Zealand that create social and environmental change – with the occasional overseas opportunity thrown in as well.

“It seems like there are more and more people that are looking for work the does good” says Do Good Jobs founder Julia Capon. “I’ve developed this website because I know how hard it can be to find a job that fits with both your values and skills. Whether you’re an accountant or even an engineer, there are roles within the not for profit and community sector that need passionate and skilled people to fill vacancies. It’s really hard to find these roles through New Zealand’s existing online jobs boards”.

Do Good Jobs lists jobs across a variety of causes and all job categories. Job listings are mainly from NGOs or charities in New Zealand and the Pacific, which focus
on good causes – including international development, environmental jobs and community jobs, amongst others.

The website has been set up as a not-for-profit website with profits supporting Global Focus Aotearoa (GFA). Having recently closed its doors after losing all government funding, GFA have set up the Global Focus Fund with remaining reserves. This fund supports the ongoing vision of the organisation through directing funding to innovative education projects in New Zealand which focus on global issues.

“I get a great buzz from connecting friends and acquaintances with good job opportunities that help make change. That’s why I’m focusing on creating a community of people through social media to share these roles even further” Do Good Jobs have a presence on facebook – and twitter.

The website is in beta format. “To develop this site into the best ethical jobs it can be, requires feedback from users. I would like to encourage people to share this site
with others, and post feedback for improvements.”

Job seekers can view ethical job listings, create job alerts, sign up to social media and post their resume (coming soon).

Job listings for employers are free for the month of November. A small fee for listing roles will apply from December 2011. For organisations which can not afford listings,
there will be an option to contact Julia to plead poverty for a free listing.
