KIA ORA KOUTOU – WELCOME TO THE HAPPYZINE COMMUNITY.

Editor’s Pick:

I think they’re gorgeous!  New Zealand’s beloved Topp Twins, the lesbian comedy and music duo from down-on-the-farm in Huntly, are now featuring in their own documentary film (which has had good reviews).  Check out Close Up’s interview with them on Channel One.  The doco is due out this week – here’s the trailer.  I heard them on Radio New Zealand recently and it struck me that they strive to keep their humour positive, use humour to pull people together.  Laughter doesn’t recognise language or land boundaries, and these girls have inspired rooms of people to come together in laughter for decades.

Good News Roundup

Some of the country’s most senior lawyers are pledging their legal services to the SPCA (NZ Herald).

And one of New Zealand’s most senior business women – Annah Stretton wears many hats, including retailer, publisher, designer and business mentor (including to Happyzine).  We’re pleased to see has been awarded with the Veuve Clicquot Award for business and industry

(The Press).
In recent research,  forty percent of the tourists surveyed said they felt comfortable with nude nude sunbathing, feeling that it was natural (AAP).

Two natural Kiwi men swung into rescue mode in Southland recently.  Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt and celebrity Entertainer Gary McCormic happened to be nearby when a car carrying four youth struck a power pole, then a tree.  The pair were able to free two of the teenagers with Shadbolt’s hunting knife (NZPA).

Up North in Wellington, Balloons in the Basin Fiesta lit up the Basin Reserve yesterday evening as twenty hot air balloons took to the air(Dominion Post).

And onto sport, what does it have to offer the business world?  Self confessed ‘radical optimist’ and Kiwi – Kevin Roberts sheds the light on this topic in his blog.

Here’s someone else with an interesting opinion:  the Queen and Michelle Obama have been exchanging such familiar body language that this columnist suspects there’s something deeper going on between the two celebrities (The Dominion Post).

This turtles body language is changing for the better.  A suit has been designed to enable a one finned Ninja Turtle to finally swim in a straight line (AP).

How about a straight line to wealth?  Are you interested in creating more prosperity in your life?   Here’s a fresh persective on the subject via Ode Magazine’s blog service.

And speaking of online social media – Detroit Police have been pushed up against some very soft substances lately – pillows.  Police stepped in to stop a pillow fight that was organised via social networking sites.  Other pillow fights were also taking place around the world.

Felix could have done with a pillow or two during his ordeal.  In Cologne, Germany, Felix the cat was found safe and sound by firefighters after five weeks under a pile of rubble caused by an earth quake  (Reuters).

Also surviving is the ancient act of being a clown.  The clowning industry appears to be thriving!  These people, of all ages and backgrounds are lining up to audition for new Clown roles and an in doing so, many are fulfilling life-long dreams   (Reuters).

Onto good news of the environment, the Department of Conservation have launched a ten year plan to protect the natural, cultural, historic and scienic values of Te Waikoropupu Springs in Golden Bay (NZ Herald).

DoC are also hard at work assisting a revival of the Robin.  A century after being wiped out, the North Island Robin can once again be heard at the Coromandel Penninsular (NZ Herald).

Finally, thousands of rare Irrawady Dolphins have been discovered in Bangladeshi waters.  Previously this species of dolphin were thought to be severely depleted (CBS News.com).
