Summer Special: Wake Up With A Smoothie – The Blushing Smoothie

Submitted by on January 14, 2010 – 6:00 am

Now that you’ve had time to digest and assimilate yesterday’s Tame Smoothie , it’s time to step it up a level.  Yes, today, we’re actually making a smoothie smoothie. There’s nothing tame about this mix.  No. Today. We’re making a milky one. And it serves two humans.

Ingredients

2 generous cups of milk (I used rice milk, you may use any milky substance that pleases you)

2 large teaspoons of LSA (which you can buy as a coarse powder of ground up linseeds, sunflower seeds and almonds – you can get it from most organic shops)

1 cup of blue berries

2 ripe, frozen bananas

2 large handfuls of ice

What to do

Place all ingredients in blender – blend.  Make sure you mix for a few minutes to ensure that the blue berries and the ice are well blended.

And because I like to have my spirulina fix most days, I just have to pop yesterday’s recipe in here too –

Ingredients for Tame Spirulina (on the side)

A chilled natural fruit juice (in my case I’m using Apple and Lemon juice – my current favourite)

I teaspoon of spirulina powder

Ice

What to do:

Mix the spirulina powder in a couple of inches of juice until it’s smooth and mixed well, then add the rest of the juice, mix it all, and then the ice.

As you can see: my two year old son – Kahu – loves these smoothies.  They’re a great way to get healthy food into kids.  He calls them his ‘juice’ and gets very excited when I make them.
