It is always good news when people are found against the odds. Imagine being lost on a frozen stretch of North Sea, you use your camera flash to seek help and someone sees it from 350 miles away, and you are saved – whew!
Have you heard of encore careers? This is where you leave your former profession and embark on another – dedicated to giving something back. Examples are widespread but the types of encore careers people are choosing include nursing, teaching, green industires and non-profit organisations. If you frequent organic shops then you will have seen the benefits of less packaging. In the UK they have London’s Unpackaged Grocery Store where they use no packaging whatsoever. I cannot wait until this is the norm not the exception. Reduce, reuse and recycle is definitely the way to go.
I really love this idea. These japanese landscape gardeners travel around with a couple of containers. When they get to their spot they create a large 60m herb garden in the shape of a man. At the end they pack up and all proceeds are used to build playgrounds in developing countries.
A new green music group is working to lessen the environmental impact of the music industry, and they have some big names involved including Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Dave Matthews Band, The Roots, and Barenaked Ladies, Brushfire Records and Warner Music Group. Their goal is to build a “large-scale, high-profile environmental coalition of musicians, industry leaders and music fans uniting in one voice behind a common goal: to use our collective power to bring about widespread environmental change within the music industry and around the globe.” We can all do something somehow, somewhere to make a difference.
