Dance Tensions Build for Battle City Showdown
Tension in the hip hop community is heating up as B-Boys and B-Girls put the final touches on their routines for one of Australia’s longest running dance events, Battle City, on Friday April 16 from 7pm in Brisbane’s King George Square.
This is the 9th annual Battle City proudly presented by Brisbane City Council in association with Knee Deep and is one of the flagship events of the Council’s ‘Get Loud’: National Youth Week celebrations. Spectators will be met with a dazzling display of power moves, toprock and downrock footwork along with aerial one-handed freezes and head spins.
There is buzz around the dance communities that six-time Battle City winners, Skill at Will, will compete with two crews of four this year including renowned B-Boys Versastyle, Manu, Yogy, Fongo, Steez and Revere. This is fresh on the back of stunning performances by several of these dancers at recent B-Boy battles including Platform 3 and Lucky Break 3. Skill at Will was only previously beaten once before in Battle City 2007 by Gwen Stefani’s world famous tour dancers, Legacy and Flea Rock. Other crews rumoured to be entering are HMK, Formatix and Planet Fresh.
Entertainment will include performances by some of Australia’s most talented DJ’s, dancers and MCs including DJ Mathmatics, Rainman, B Girl Demilition, Yuinhuzami, Liones, MC Que, DJ Bacon and more. B-Girl Demilition (aka Demi Sorono from So You Think You Can Dance) will once again judge this year’s Battle City alongside her legendary dance brother Carlo (aka B-Boy Jester) and local judge B-Boy Riot. Around 14 crews of four are expected to compete.
Battle City is a family friendly, drug and alcohol free event. Entrance is free, no bookings required.
