Showcase Finale to Youth Week in Brisbane
Music, markets, circus, visual arts, fashion and comedy will make up Brisbane City Council’s spectacular finale to its ‘Get Loud’: National Youth Week celebrations when Youth Arts Showcase is staged on Saturday April 17 from 1.30pm to 7pm.
Sounding off across four stages located in King George Square, Queen Street Mall and Brisbane Square (adjacent Treasury Casino) will be 24 musical acts including names such as Lion Island, Felinedown, My Fiction and Skinny Jean.
The programme will also include a fashion parade of fresh new designs from emerging local designers, circus performances by Circa Zoolings, short films shown on a big screen in King George Square along with a hip hop dance off in Brisbane Square.
Weightlifter, Thomas Lilly, will also be attempting to break the world record for the total amount of weight squatted within 24 hours and expects to break this within just six hours.
Market stalls throughout King George Square will be hosting works of young artists along with workshops, youth organisation displays and an exhibition curated by Vegas Spray, an online arts space for contemporary arts in Brisbane.
Youth Arts Showcase will also feature the launch of M.A.D. 4 Teens Magazine (which stands for Making A Difference) – independently written and published by a group of 20 young people for young people with the aim of gaining publication experience, showcasing youth talents and forming friendships.
Themed Breaking Out, the inaugural issue is a 32-page glossy magazine and a limited number of free copies will be available at the event.
