365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation As I Raise My Son and Grow My Good News Website – Blog#5

Ahhh Lavender you soothing angel. It's just nice to know you're there, smelling devine by the front gate.

Happiness.  We all know it comes from within.  Right?  There’s a book I have called ‘The Astonishing Power of Emotions‘ by Abraham Hicks. It draws attention to the significance of our emotions, and says that by allowing ourselves to feel as good as we possibly can, we can navigate our way towards everything we want or need (including improving the health of the planet). It also reiterates the Law of Attraction – that which we feel and give our attention to, we attract more of.  Does this blur the distinction between happiness coming from within or ‘without’?  You tell me?  All I know is that when I listen to my emotions, and seek to enjoy myself, everything seems to flow better.

Today, I decided, was the day to enjoy our new house. The sun shone autumn warm and I felt content to lye low and settle in.  I pottered about, putting things away, tidying, enjoying the smell of the endless wooden floors, weeding whilst doing business on the phone, attending to Happyzine, chasing my dog down the road as she headed towards her new doggy girl-friend, chasing my son as he chased our dog down the road, you know, the usual.

As I’ve mentioned, one thing I love about being back in Golden Bay is the impressive array of fresh food stalls found down all manner of side streets and driveways. Today I swung by the cream de la creme of produce stalls to sample the Golden Bay Community Organic Garden‘s offerings. The gardens have been around for at least twenty years and have morphed over time into an organic haven of fruit trees and veggie

Thyme - Mmmm, you're great for mediteranean cooking, and healing for the lungs, I love knowing you're here in my garden - just in case!

gardens and general permaculture in (utterly inspiring) practice. Thousands must have WWOOFed (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) there, from literally all over the planet. I bought some heirloom zuchines, they’re striped green and a gorgeous vivid colour and some lovely looking bright orange carrots. Don’t you love that about organic food? It’s brighter, with a more vivid food, it tastes stronger, it feels better. If anyone disputes this try comparing the taste of an organic tomato with your average conventionally grown tomato – one is simply a taste explosion, the other taste’s like a wet flannel.  So home we headed with our gatherings to whip up a brown rice and vegetable stir-fry (incidentally, according to my trusty Whole Foods Handbook, brown rice is loaded with B-vitamins, vitamin E, fibre, selenium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, zinc, iron, copper, phosphorous and calcium). I added in some gorgeous thyme, basil and rosemary from the garden plus some home made plum sauce and now the food sits warm in three puku (the Maori word for stomachs only they don’t use the ‘s’ in their plural words) the dog partook too, thanks to the generous efforts of Kahu the toddler of the house.
