SOLD: Beautiful Happyzine

The Railway Reserve. Here in Nelson where I’ve been staying for the past few days, this path is the closest we come to ancient English history. True to its name it used to host the local railway track. However that’s long gone and these days it’s known as a great place to walk the dog, bike to and from town and spend time in the midst of nature at her most over grown. This pathway is lined with every type of food tree you can imagine – come harvest time the place is dripping with varieties of apples, plums and peaches. There are also nut trees and I nearly hit a man with a doggy-stick once, who was harvesting a healthy crop of comfrey. If you’re ever looking for a place to breath out and rest a while from the low buzz of Nelson’s ‘burbs, check out this place. It’s a sanctuary. Just to make it really special it’s under treat of demolishment by the local ‘forward thinking’ council. Crazy, crazy, crazy. But it’s ok, a colourful guerrilla movement is underway to preserve the reserve. In fact that’s exactly what they said via their mode of communication. And art. And general expression of enrapturement and joy. These dudes must have strained some important muscles preparing their message. They must have spent a good few hours in deep concentration. It would have taken some forward planning too. Was it graffiti? Nope. Perhaps a little tagging? Nooo. Was it a chalk-fest? No! Ok, I’ll tell you! It was Guerrilla Knitting! We’ve covered it before in Happyzine (very well, I do feel). And here it is again. Because it’s so amusing, and rambunctious. Actually this GK demo has actually come undone and draped itself across the side of the reserve, rather than spanning the whole path as it originally did, but who cares? The point remains. ‘Preserve the Reserve!’ that knitting shouts. And I truly hope they do.

PS today I called 0800 apple to ask them to donate an eco-friendly lap-top to Happyzine.  I left a message.  They haven’t returned my call yet.  I’ll let you know when they do.
