365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – Blog#27 – Magnifico Petrol Station Woman!
A delightful thing happened to me today. Did I happen across a pile of money lying upon the footpath? No, not today. Did a beaming Italian woman leap towards me waving free tickets to the Mediterranean in my face with heart-felt promises of the best food her cousin’s could offer? Nope, well not yet anyway. What actually happened was I filled up my car with petrol and … SOMEONE SERVED ME.
Pause.
I will give you time to reflect upon this.
Here in New Zealand, despite my late father’s refusal to get out of the car unless someone personally served him at ‘service stations’ (as they were once honestly called), people don’t do this so much any more.
And so today, the angelic woman who took care of my petroleum needs was pulled to my bosom (figuratively speaking) as I gushed with gratitude for her help, and indignation that she was a rarity in my world.
The poor woman thanked me and told me several people had already yelled at her today. I told her to tell the next person who yelled at her that actually, one woman had thanked her profoundly for her magnifico (ok I’m still with the beaming Italian woman) service, because that’s what she was – magnificent. She blinked at me and smiled warmly, wishing me a wonderful day.
Then I drove a way.
And so that was my moment today. Delightful. Wouldn’t you say?
