365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – Blog#29 – Kindness is Cool
Thanks to some inspiration from a man named Mark Silver, who runs the business Heart of Business, my heart is leaping with plans – plans for Happyzine and for my community. The urge to give to people is coursing through me, more of which I’ll tell you about once the schemed about acts of kindness have actually eventuated, but today I remembered a friend of mine, Rachel. Aside from my family, Rachel has to ‘take the cake’ (Mmm cake) for one of the kindest gestures I’ve ever received in all my thirty three point five years of human existence this time around. Actually now that I think about it I’ve received quite a few, but I digress. Rachel was once my next door neighbour. She has four kids and a husband, and when I gave birth to my son, she made me meals for one month, straight. She basically added me to the family. Every night she’d have one of her children pass the meal over the fence. It was all done in a very cheerful manner. I’d chow down a huge and delicious meal (ravenous as my body adjusted to breastfeeding and sleep deprivation) and would then text her my immense thanks. As some of you will know, that first … well actually year … of mothering can be quite intense. The thing about Rachel was, she’d just had a baby too. She wasn’t overly rich or anything, but that didn’t matter. She found the food and the time for me. I’ll never forget her generosity. When you find yourself in the position of needing a little support, and people get that, and step up to help. Well those are the gestures that keep the planet pulsing with love and trust. Those gestures make a profound difference. As a person practicing kindness, you have to go out of your way just a little, but the ripple effects are deep and immeasurable. I advise those practicing kindness to trust their intuition, if your gut tells you someone’s in need and you have something to share, go for it. And let me know how it went. It feels beyond amazing.
