365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – Blog#50 – Some Country Style Lov’n on Commercial Street
(While I raise my son and grow my good news website)
There was a country music show-down on Commercial Street, Takaka today. Apparently we are currently hosting the annual Golden Valley Country Music Awards. I was organising some prizes for you, the highly valued Happyzine reader, and in order to get to Artisans, Kahu and I were required to risk life and limb to to zig zag our way through kilometres of hat wearing, guitar playing country (and western?) musicians of all ages, shapes and sizes. I’ll tell you one thing they had in common: passion. Oh yes, they each had the fire in their bellies and they weren’t afraid to express it. Every singer we came across seemed emersed in their own world of music on the small piece of pavement they’d claimed, their guitar cases thrust outwards agrresively. I felt pained at my lack of coin (thanks to this eftpos culture I’ve been participating in). They were all worthy of my money though. From the old guy with the beard who had set up a drum machine to keep up with his strumm’n, to the collection of even older, yet somehow younger souls (one of them played a pink wash board) who gathered outside the outdoor gear shop to pump out some fresh tunes. Each were awash with the country spirit. Each person made our attempts to traverse Commercial street all the more entertaining.
