365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – Blog#65 – Finding Our Gods and the Next Steps for Happyzine

Submitted by on June 19, 2010 – 4:08 pm

I dream of Happyzine becoming one of NZ's beacons of light.

I came across this great quote in the book ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ by Elizabeth Gilbert last night.  The author borrowed it from Sean, her Yogic Irish dairy farmer friend, while she was in India, finding her God.  Sean said:

“Imagine that the universe is a great spinning engine.  You want to stay near the core of the thing – right in the hub of the wheel – not out at the edges where all the wild whirling takes place, where you can get frayed and crazy.  The hub of calmness – that’s your heart.  That’s where God lives within you.  So stop looking for answers in the world.  Just keep coming back to that center and you’ll always find peace.”

This made sense to me and brought me back to the many hours I’ve spent in Nelson Seido Karate dojo in Nelson, meditating along side the now ‘Hanchi’ Andy Barber, he who has been meditating and practicing karate for over forty years.  I remember him saying to his sweaty mob of karate students:

“Imagine yourself as the full moon, shining steady on the waters, whether it’s stormy or calm, you stay the same, a steady, bright light.”

So I meditated last night and returned to my God.

And this morning while I was meditating, the fragments of an idea that have been gathering in my mind consolidated.  Happyzine now has nearly 1000 subscribers checking out its ezine on a weekly basis, plus three to four thousand souls check in each month for their fix of good news.  And much of our inspiration is environmental.

Happyzine has become a platform for positive social and environmental change.  It has the capacity to be a hub for all environmental groups nationwide to share their news and ideas with each other, and with a whole bunch of people who really need some good news right now about this planet they live on and love on.

This forum I’ve been creating over the past three years, sometimes with-out a clear understanding of what exactly I was doing, but always with the burning urge to keep going, is now in a place where it can serve society and the planet.

So now I have the desire to contact the many environmental groups that are working towards making a difference all around the country to tell them how Happyzine can be of service to them.  I also want to ask them to add www.happyzine.co.nz to their news contact lists, and to spread the word about us to their communities.  We can help the leaders out there who want to get the good news out about their environmental projects.  We can reach people, on a local and global basis, in a moment, with the latest developments, ideas, news, images and video about the ripples of positive change that are criss crossing the planet.

And excitement is powerful compost for positive environmental change.
