Green Artist Host’s Exhibition at Nelson’s Organic Shop – Q & A With Dave Kingan
I’ve loved painting and drawing for as long as I can remeber. Its part of my spirit, I just have to do it. I love being able to invent or create something and make it real, anything is possible with art. When I draw I step into a land which knows no bounds, inspired by the nature that surrounds us but with the infinite possibilities of the stars. Then there’s the peaceful, meditative side to art which is equally as special to me, I really value its healing power, definitely on myself and hopefully on others too.
2. What are you doing with your art?
I’ve just finished four paintings and three drawings to be exhibited at the Organic Green Grocer. I also do logos, branding, and commisions for others with socially and environmentally sustainable ideas. I have to keep a good balance between other peoples commissions and my own work, so commissions are generally kept to a minumum.
3. What inspires you to remain fresh in your work?
Lots of things really, reading a book, watching a bee or just studying my thoughts as I enjoy the peace of my tranquil home in the bush, learning, observing, being present in each moment, I guess its just the ever changing jpurney of life that keeps me inspired.
4. What’s your philosophy about life?
I guess that a simple, sustainable lifestyle creates sweet feelings of health, wealth and happiness, which lead to inspiration, creativity, fulfilment and peace.
5. What’s one experience you recommend to everyone?
Living in the bush without hot water and electricity for 6 months! Has really altered the way I look at energy consumption.
6. What do you love?
Gatherings, parties, festivals, cups of tea, picnics, missions and trips and adventures of any kind.
7. Who do you love?
Trix my dog, my whanau of course, and my extended whanau, my sisters and brothers from many differerent mothers, you guys keep my inspiration
coming.
8. What’s your current favorite breakfast?
A huge green smoothie! Dandelion, parsely, comfrey, spinach, or any fresh edible leaves blended up with fruit and juice or water. Ultimate life force injection!
9. If you could give anyone on the planet a big kiss of appreciation right now, who would it be?
Definitely Ali and Joy my parents, their unwaverng support has been incredible.
10. Where would you like to see you and your art in five years?
Anywhere and everywhere!
11. Would you like to say anything else to our groovy community?
“Keep on sowing your seed, for you never know which may grow, perhaps they all will.”- Albert Einstein.
