365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – Blog#97 – Rebecca May: Thrive
Yesterday I received an entry for a competition we haven’t told officially anyone about yet. It was a gorgeous piece of writing, it fitted perfectly with the ethos of Happyzine and now, hopefully I’ve convinced Rebecca May to blog weekly for us about her adventures in the ‘burbs. For you see, Rebecca decided to become a hippy when she was fourteen.
“It was the alternative alternative to becoming a goth. I took up reading poetry and painting, drinking chamomile tea. I stopped shaving my legs and I started wearing second hand clothes. After a while I wondered if this was it. Surely, if there were so many people involved in this ‘movement’ it had to involve more.”
And from that point on, her exploratory journey into the endless possibilities facing some one with a passion for the planet, unfolded. The day she wrote into us, was the day she received her Permaculture Course information.
Will we enter Rebecca’s piece into our upcoming sustainable design competition? No, it’s not the place for her work. But go check her first piece out, it’s just gorgeous! It’s basically her life story from fourteen to now – pregnant, and living with her soul mate in New Brighton, on the East Coast of New Zealand. There, she’s about to weave her magic, in the form of a new life, and also of a budding new transition towns culture.
She’s got some important work to do, so hopefully we can support her in the many small and not so small ways that we humans help each other out.
What of me? I’m still moving slowly. I’m well, I’m healthy, but I feel the need to be slow. It’s raining here and due to the fact that rain is a novelty here (well for me it is), I’m loving it. It’s the perfect weather to encourage rest and chillaxation.
