SOLD: Beautiful Happyzine

I love people.  Which is a good thing as they’re everywhere.  Today unfolded in its own merry way to be a chatty kind of day, a linger for relaxed conversations in the sun, take your time, in fact forget about the time, sort of day.

I chatted with one friend about her dreams to travel the world inspiring thousands to live their dreams – which indeed she will once she starts feeding her wells of self esteem.  When ever I even look at her I can see her talking in a highly authoritative manner about something to heaving roomfuls of people.  I’m not exactly sure what she’ll talk about, but that’s  irrelevant because my friend’s got so much life experience she could spend years regurgitating it in an inspiring ‘let’s all save the world’ sort of way.

Prior to that conversation, there was the ‘slow yarn with one foot on the boot of the car’ chat.  This one was with friend who has nothing but time on his hands to enjoy his beloved garden, his animals and the sunshine.  Naturally, with this type of person, you chat about the state of the world and whether planet earth will make it through.  I took the optimistic line, balancing out his hopeful yet a slightly pessimistic tone.  The conversation fizzled when we hit the subject of compounding interest, which he insisted was the root of all evil and I have absolutely no interest in at all and thus nothing to say about it.  Nothing there.  Nope.

The conversations continued on in the form of  four or five ongoing email dialogues about a whole cluster of exciting mini-projects that are unfolding at their own pace in Happyzine land.  We’re talking subjects such as – my ebook, advertising, local good news, Club HZ, our permaculture exchange, and articles. Yep, the chit-chat was zippin’ all over the place online.  I always have to discipline myself with Happyzine to see one thing through at a time, despite the multiple conversations.  It takes the doggedness of a hunter in a hail storm some days.

And the most spirited conversation of them all was the one I had with my son as we set up a very complex jig-saw puzzle with a tiger and a giraffe in it.  Well OK I admit, it was for three to five year olds, but still, it stretched me to the limits of my jig-saw confidence.  I was drawn magnetically to the pile of pieces on the floor tonight and couldn’t help but sweep Kahu into my eager world of puzzle assembling.

“Hmmm, we’ve just got to find all the straight edges, because these go on the sides, see?” I said to Kahu who nodded and handed me six pieces, none of which had straight edges.  But it didn’t matter.  Because that wasn’t the point.

“Oh! Oh! This one goes here! See?!”  My son nodded, watching me, rather than the puzzle with great interest.

Yes, eventually the puzzle became my own personal quest and my son was relegated to the side lines as I chatted excitedly and whooped every time I found a piece.  At one point Kahu accidentally found the perfect piece and you can imagine the furore (Furore is also a town in Italy I now know, I’d like to go there, it looks nice).  I was most impressed when he found that piece, it was one of the peaks of our twenty minute puzzle making time.  The whole way through I kept saying to Kahu ‘Are all the pieces here? I really, really hope they are!” and he replied, with a furrowed three year old brow “I don’t know Mum.”  But, by crikey, they were! And so when Kahu placed that last piece into the puzzle I demonstrated a full scale end-of-puzzle celebration – including lots of ‘Yays!’ and high fives.

Immediately Kahu wanted to do it again but I decided that we’d leave it on high note.

I see people have been leaving their comments and votes on our first entry into Wild Entry, which is awesome.  People have also been emailing about the permaculture exchange article that Joanna Piekarski recently wrote – now that is going to be one fascinating project to observe.

Gotta go, it’s nearly mid-night.
