A Regional Environment Hui – Auckland
If you care about, or are working to restore your part of the Auckland Region through action, education or policy, and want to meet with others to explore regional and local possibilities for Auckland and how you can contribute to them making it happen, you are invited to participate.
The day will consist of a series of short presentations on regional possibilities for and of local action in Auckland, followed by collaborative ‘open-space’ sessions for participants to build on the next steps.
Regional possibilities include those for: walking/cycling/public transport, biodiversity & restoration, food production, housing retrofits and a summary of auckland’s carbon emissions, plus some examples shared of great local action.
Key Questions for this event:
- What good examples of local action can we share, and what regional possibilities can we see together for Auckland?
- How might the best wisdom from within communities and citizenry contribute to the direction of the new council? Within the spatial plan? Within the new local board plans?

Background:
In May, 80 people got together at a hui entitled ‘Thriving in Our Changing Environment’ hui held in New Lynn. The write up from this event is available here: www.ecomatters.org.nz
That event was an initial step forward in having conversations for learning and collaboration across the region. This event is a next step forward in seeding collaboration. There will be two further events in the first half of 2011.
