365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – Blog 242 – The Spirit of Christmas Exists in my Hood
I’m feeling quite caught up in my three year old son’s excitement about Christmas. We don’t have a TV and we live in the country so his joy isn’t really about presents and all that material stuff that it’s easy to get caught up in. He’s just excited because it’s CHRISTMAS and people have been talking excitedly and expectantly about this particular day all year. Family are coming together. Trees are decorated. Lights are twinkling. Songs are playing. Treats are being discussed. These are interesting times for a three year old. I haven’t put any presents beneath the tree because they will not remain enclosed if I place them in his world. Actually he doesn’t even know presents traditionally sit beneath the tree yet. And I could go anywhere on the ritual front. These are the early days of setting my boy up for life with his expectations of Christmas. You know the most important part of Christmas? The part that I will focus upon with gusto and appreciation in the presence of my son – it’s the gathering of loved ones. Of family. This is still the one day of the year here in New Zealand where family and coming together with the important, special people in our lives, is top priority. And that’s cool with me. It’s more than cool – it’s spectacular! I’m looking forward to hanging out with a bunch of people who have known me all my life and expect me to be amongst them, eating abundantly and having the space to do … very little. As for my excited son – he’ll learn that on Christmas day family hug each other, small gifts are lovingly exchanged and people spend time together in a chillaxed and fun manner.
Right on.
