Opportunity to Make a Positive Difference for Momanyi and Solomon – Two Young Boys in Kenya

January 4th, 2011
Hello my name is Julia Sich and my husband’s name is Johnson Moseti. I was born in NZ and Johnson was born in Kenya but has lived in NZ for 23 years.
Johnson’s family in Kenya are very poor and this year we have taken on the project of making a difference for two of his brother Solomon’s sons. Their names are Momanyi Moseti  who is in form 2 and Solomon Jr  Moseti  who is in form 1.  They have managed to qualify to get into a good school, but in Kenya education is user pays and the family don’t have the money for their school fees.
Solomon has a hearing impairment and had to drop out of primary school, which means he can’t read or write and thus doesn’t have a job or a way to find the money for the boys. He sold the one cow they had to pay for the fees and now the whole family are without milk.  Each boy will need $2000 for a year at school.  To start with we need to raise $800 each for their first term by January 4th.  And it is nearly January 4th so we are looking for ideas and for people to generously donate by making a payment into the account set up for Momanyi and Solomon Jr.
We have already made a difference for another nephew called Cornelius who is an orphan by paying for his education and now he  is in his final year at University in Nairobi studying Early Childhood Education. He will very soon be able to help his family when he gets a job.  This has been a big commitment for us so that is why we have decided to invite others to help fund the education for Momanyi and Solomon Jr.
We know that there are so many appeals for children in need in Africa and that it all feels too big too deal with and then there is the question as to whether the children will actually get the money?? That is why we are sharing our personal story with you and asking you to donate or suggest ideas as to how to raise the money to enable these two boys through  education to pull the family out of the poverty trap.
To assure you that the money will reach the boys we have set up an account for them and the money will be sent through Western Union to their Uncle Thomas who is a church elder. He will have to provide ID and answer an identifying question to collect the money.  We will also provide an ongoing report of how the boys are doing and include photos.
To make a donation: Within NZ the BNZ account number is: 02 0727 0036055 98.  The account name is Momanyi & Solomon Jr.
For donations from overseas: the SWIFT Code is BKNZNZ22. The bank address is Bank of New Zealand, Wellington, New Zealand. Account name and number as above.
January 8th Update.   We are grateful to those who have donated so far and we have received $1030.00 which means the boys were able to start school.  We will send more money as it arrives. Some ideas that have been suggested include auctioning unwanted Christmas gifts, having a film evening (suggested movie “Taking Root: the vision of Wangari Maathai, who won a noble peace prize for mobilizing women to plant trees in Kenya), and people sponsoring a man who is going to do a 100km cycle ride and donate any money raised to the education fund.  How cool is that!
Thank you very much. And we wish you all a Very Happy New Year!!
Julia and Johnson
