365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – 308 – Charlotte ‘Comes Out’ for an 8×8 Regeneration Evening: FUN!

Submitted by on March 1, 2011 – 11:36 pm 2 Comments

Since I started Happyzine three point five years ago, I’ve lain low as the Editor of Happyzine.  Physically I mean.  I haven’t made guest appearances at events singing the praises of my site.  I haven’t given educational speeches about the reason my good news site exists.  I was on TV.  Twice.  And I’ve been on the radio a few times, well a lot.  But there hasn’t been too much actual people contact for me within my role as Ed. of Happyzine.  Not ’til tonight!

Tonight, I remembered the power of ‘kanohi ki te Kanohi’ – aka: face to face.

I was invited by the immensly inspiring, making it happen, creating positive change crew from  ‘Regeneration’ to give a pecha kucha slide show talk about Happyzine.

What fun!

Here I am looking serious as I attempt to remember all the stuff I wanted to say about Happyzine, in twenty seconds, while I gaze blindly into the white light where last time I could see, a room full of people sat listening to me.

The most amazing, amazing thing about tonight was meeting New Zealand’s young leaders.  At thirty four I just sneak into that category … and being in such awe inspiring company was truly, deeply inspiring, and humbling, and entertaining!

The others gave talks about: Regeneration, the Nelson Environment Centre, Queer rights and queer support systems for Nelson, the Braemar Eco-Village, stopping violence in Nelson (in a really happy way), the psychology of happiness and a few other amazing (there’s that word again) projects that are taking off in these parts.  And we each  had to do it using twenty slides, with twenty seconds to talk about each slide.

It made for a heart warming, stimulating, uplifting evening.  If we represent the future of New Zealand, I’d say you can all relax and get on with enjoying your lives cause our future’s gonna rock!

You can catch the Regeneration crew once more at the Suter Art Gallery this Thursday night, from 7-9, where they are featuring: a film about fatherhood “In your hands”, a film shot in Nepal that looks at the issues of climate change in a small village “Without Rain” and “ReGeneration” a short film about the movement for positive change that’s happening in Aotearoa.
