New to the festival this year, and hosted by The University of Auckland, we are delighted to announce our first Wordy Day Out on Saturday 14 May at The University of Auckland Business School – 8 sessions featuring 10 of the best YA writers around (only $30 for the day, $15 for students and under 18s).
Back at the Aotea Centre, treat yourself to a Take 5 (36% discount) or Take 10 (40% discount) Concession Pass, valid for all core events (excluding Special Events and Wordy Day Out). Students receive 50% off the standard door price. That’s a very good deal.
WORDY DAY OUT
Speaking of good deals, the inaugural Wordy Day Out is not only a good deal for students, it’s a good deal, full stop.
Bumper Crop of New Zealand Performers
Mark Saturday 14 May in your diary and come along to The University of Auckland Business School for a whole day of sessions featuring some of the liveliest authors around. They all carry the label YA, which to us just means interesting people who write riveting books. Carnegie Medal winner Meg Rosoff said it for us in a 2009 review: “I’d like to go out on a limb here, and say that nothing in the world of adult reading can compare with the revolutionary content of a novel you are likely to find in the young adult section of your local bookshop.”
Meg is joined by international writers Cassandra Clare (USA); Karen Healey (NZ/Australia); Margo Lanagan (Australia); Garth Nix and Sean Williams (Australia), and a stellar line-up of Kiwi writers Bernard Beckett, Brian Falkner, Mandy Hager, David Hair, and – better known for her adult fiction – rising YA star Paula Morris.
Our sincere thanks to The University of Auckland who have joined with us in their commitment to excellence in literature, to introduce The Wordy Day Out to the 2011 programme. Whether you like fantasy, horror, adventure, thrillers, gothic or sci-fi. Whether you’re a teenager or twice that, the Wordy Day Out has something for everyone – don’t miss it, book now.
