Country’s first Te Reo Countdown supermarket opens in Tokoroa
Naku te rourou nau te rourou ka ora ai te iwi. With your food basket and my food basket the people will live.
Member of Parliament for Te Tai Hauāuru and Co-leader of the Māori Party Tariana Turia is delighted to hear about the opening of Countdown Tokoroa, New Zealand’s first bilingual supermarket.
“I watched with interest on last night’s Te Karere bulletin, the opening of the country’s first Te Reo Māori supermarket in Tokoroa,” said Mrs Turia.
“What a wonderful way to educate everyone on our official language – Te Reo Māori “.
The locals of Tokoroa will not only add food to their baskets when they go shopping but they will add a wonderful source of knowledge, too.
It’s a great idea and I wholeheartedly support it. I hope that other retailers around the country take heed of this initiative for their stores. It’s the way of the future.”
