Recycling in Korokoro is a Go!
HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE
6 JULY 2011
Recycling in Korokoro is a go! New recycling bins will be delivered to every Korokoro home later this month as part of a trial to further encourage recycling across the suburb. Flexinets, which prevent recycled items from blowing away, will also be delivered.
This is a joint initiative between Hutt City Council and the Korokoro Environmental Group and if successful may be repeated in other areas. Council’s environmental sustainability officer Peter Foaese says the trial will make it easier for people to make the choice to recycle.
“We know local residents are keen recyclers as our collections have increased during the last 12 years to 6700 tonnes or about 66kg per person each year.
“This is a great result but we know there is even more we can do and this trial is about starting to maximise our city’s recycling potential,” he says.
“We’ll be seeking more feedback from Korokoro residents participating in the trial later in the year, to complement the results of our recent Korokoro recycling survey.”
