Update from Mount Eden Village People
By the end of October, seven billion of us will be sharing our planet and consuming our planet’s resources. One thing we can do to support the planet a little is to start growing some of our own food. With three weeks to go to Labour Weekend, this is the time to get started with your vegetable garden.
If you are a first-year gardener, or want to increase your food production on a small section, join us for the Square Foot Garden workshop with Ken Clark from Waiheke. Ken grows everything organically. He’s a leader in food production on a small section, recycling and waste minimisation.
For experienced gardeners who want to learn more about organic gardening, we recommend the Master Gardener course organised by the CCS Disability Action, which started on Saturday 1 October.
Auckland Council has launched the Draft Auckland Plan, the new spatial plan for our region, and is asking for submissions on what is good in the plan and what needs to be changed.
The Draft Auckland Plan sets out the council’s vision of how to achieve the world’s most liveable city by 2040. Submissions close at 4pm on Tuesday, 25 October 2011.
The MEVS has invited Peter Salmon and candidates to a political event at the Mt Eden Village Centre. This is a great opportunity to meet election candidates and find out about their vision and ideas for the future of New Zealand.
If you are interested in improving your social media skills and building online communities, please join us at the Mt Eden Village Centre for a social media workshop with Les Squill next Tuesday.
Best wishes
