Check out the Easter Bunny’s post-indulgence raw Greens Smoothie – from Sarah Lea

Summer’s arrived just in time for Easter and we’ve welcomed it with boundless energy.

Easter’s a time for bunnies and eggs. Symbols of rebirth in the name of Oestre, the Goddess of fertility, but here in New Zealand, with the arrival of Autumn and the shortened days, long nights and the harvest moon, I’ve been challenged in finding a balance between the waning of the year and the ideaology of Easter celebrations. However, a glorious time of jubilation, sunshine worshipping and chocolate homage has been at the pinnacle of our long weekend. Beautiful beaches to ourselves with crystal clear water, live music, harvest markets and community fundraisers.

I found my equilibrium in the Autumn/Spring stumbling block. The children found evidence of the Easter Bunny in carrots dug up in the garden, the vibrant greens used in the morning juice…why does a bunny bring eggs? What does the chicken think about this?  We celebrated the weekend with our beloved friends making bamboo burrows for the easter bunny to hide in, boiling up eggs wrapped in harvest flowers and leaves with discarded beetroot skins, stories were told of creation and equality, and we blessed our abundant stores of fresh produce, devouring seasonal meals from the garden. Of course, raw chocolate smoothies were nicely balanced with wild greens, raw chocolate cake balanced with bee pollen and maca, a bounti-full table of rainbow coloured dishes restored equality with raw chocolate and barleygrass cheezecake.

Now of course, the balance is in finding peace with endless surges of energy created by the cacao feast. I sit here in perfect poise, a green smoothie in one hand, raw chocolate truffles in the other! Contemplating equity, I gorge on one and slurp the rest… perfect balance!

If you’re feeling a little heavy round the waist and less energised from the blow-out of Easter celebrations, find restoration in the Easter Bunny and eat his greens instead.  Grab those discarded carrot tops, stalks of silverbeet, lettuces doing a runner and pop them in a glass with your favourite fruits. The fibre of the greens will help clean out any toxins, alkalise your body and feed it the nutrients it needs. Your body will feel stronger, more oxygenated, will have higher immunity and will feel more alert.

Get back to nature and follow the Easter Bunny’s pawprints. Bound about in limitless delight these holidays instead.
