Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week is almost here!
Sam Rye
We’re excited to announce that the Week of Action is almost here!
From 16th – 22nd September, thousands of people all over New Zealand will take to the streets, rivers, lakes, beaches & farms, to clean up their communities & other taonga of Aotearoa.
It’s a time to catch up with friends, get out & about with the kids from the local school, and have a good look at the beautiful parts of our towns & cities that we sometimes forget. It’s a time to be out in nature, to remove any litter you find, and to discuss what we can do to ensure there’s less next year.
We already have over 190 actions registered across the country, with over 21500 bags due to be collected. In truth, we’d rather this number was much lower – we’d rather there was no litter in our communities; no plastic bags in our harbours, no bottles caught in the mangroves, no cigarette butts in the streets, and we could concentrate on some of our other programs. But sadly, this is not the case, so we ask you to join us this year for Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week – and this year, we’d love people to engage in a dialogue about how the community can reduce the litter in their area – we’d love to support your ideas!
You can sign up to Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week online and join an event in your area, or if there’s not one that suits you – start your own! It’s really easy, and we’ll send you everything you need to run a fantastic event (including gloves, bags, posters, and event resource packs). Sign up today at http://cleanup.knzb.org.nz
We would love to see your photos from the event too, so feel free to post them to our Facebook page, or Tweet them on the day with #KNZBWeek as the hashtag – we’ll retweet the best from @KeepNZBeautiful!
