“It is a gem photographing the Far North”

Submitted by on May 16, 2013 – 2:12 pm

It is interesting how technology and especially the way communication has evolved to share stories, interests, places across the web. I had come across a page on facebook, “Tango@ke Expressions”, to find a photographer who resides in the North, who shares stories and the beauty that is Northland through photographs. I have had the chance to e-interview Georgina Peterson and find out what inspires her work.

Ingoa: Georgina Peterson

Iwi:      Ko te Aupouri te iwi,

Ko Te Kao te kainga,

Kei Kaitaia ahau e noho ana i tēnei wā.

Since a young age, photography has been a part of Georgina’s life, inspired by her dad who was an avid photographer. The Tango@ke Expressions page had evolved in a desire to share her photos with her sister who lives across the way in Australia, as well as the wider whānau who live away from the hau kainga (family homeland). Tango@ke refers to a little place known as The Landing in Te Kao, Far North. This place was her whānau summer swimming spot, and whānau homestead.

Apart from selling a few prints at the local market, Georgina’s long term goals is to publish and further share her work. However, she enjoys it as a hobby, and her fulltime job is as a kaiarahi for the MOKO programme – Manawa Ora, Korokoro Ora /Healthy Hearts, because of Healthy Throats. This is a Rheumatic Fever prevention programme that works around 14 school.

I am absolutely amazed to come across the beauty that is capture by Georgina, and especially humbled to meet a person dedicated to Māori children Health, with a talented photography hobbie on the side.

Ngā mihi nui kia koe Geogina,

Have a good week Happyzine readers, nā Ani
