Social Enterprise Week is coming to Wellington!

A series of events will take place in Wellington from 14 ­ 18 August to celebrate and accelerate the growth of social enterprise in New Zealand.

On Thursday 15 August, Wellingtonians can take part in the Social Enterprise Conference ­ an event designed to raise awareness of the social enterprise sector and help attendees with a great idea leap into the sector with a mix of hard and soft skills.

“We’re aiming to provide participants with access to established social entrepreneurs who are leading existing enterprises or conducting research into the sector globally,” says Silvia Zuur, co­founder of chalkle°, one of the partners organising the week’s events.

“We’re also going to be providing participants with skills in marketing, team­building and strategic direction and give them a really good taste of the potential that social enterprise has for the way we do business.”

Social Enterprise Week has been developed by chalkle°, Enspiral, the Hikurangi Foundation and the Startup Weekend team.

The events kicks off on Wednesday with the Future of Social Enterprise, an event designed to bring leaders from a range of sectors together to hear more about social enterprise in New Zealand. On Thursday, the Social Enterprise conference will get underway at the Michael Fowler Centre and on Friday Enspiral’s co­working space will be open to the public.

From Friday to Sunday, a special Social Enterprise Startup Weekend will take place. Startup Weekends are an established approach to building business ideas in 54 hours. This weekend, the team are turning their attention to supporting people who are focused on turning their social enterprise ideas from the abstract into reality.
