One of America’s oldest fruit trees is still bearing fruit after 383 years. This pear tree was planted in 1630 – that’s 146 years before the United States became a nation. It has survived hurricanes and vandal attacks and continues to produce fruit. Kia kaha Endicott Pear.

As described in Treehugger: Although its pears have been described as “medium in size, unattractive, and coarse textured”, the tree’s shortcomings have been more than made up for by its resilience.

The food forests we plant today will be there for many generations – we just have to plant them!
