Auckland Museum is getting even greener
Auckland Museum is fitting its roof with large solar panels and is well on the way to becoming the most sustainably run museum in New Zealand. Last year the museum earned an award for cutting its carbon emissions by 21 percent. The solar panels are expected to generate renewable power equivalent to 9 average households, that’s 77,000 kWt’s per year. This sustainability program is reaping benefits for the museums power bill, as the New Zealand Herald reports, “Museum director Roy Clare says that carbon-cutting efforts this year saved the museum about $340,000 and made for an annual electricity and gas bill around 35 per cent cheaper than three years ago.” Good work Auckland Museum.
