Green living goes back to its roots in Sydney
Sydneysiders can learn from the experts about how to create a green wall, grow their own food and set up a worm farm as part of the Green Villages sustainability hub at this year’s annual Rootstock Sydney Festival.
The City’s Green Villages website greenvillages.com.au features bright ideas for sustainable living with information about workshops, community gardens, grant opportunities, tips and ideas.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said visitors to the Green Villages sustainability hub could enjoy a relaxed and friendly chill-out zone with inspirational advice about green living and free workshops.
“Come along and learn from our green experts about how to live more sustainably – from growing your own food, to learning how to be a smarter shopper and building a green wall,” the Lord Mayor said.
“Our experts will provide practical advice about sustainable living. And it’s a terrific opportunity to find out about our Green Villages program that promotes sustainable living in the heart of our local communities.”
The hub will join around 60 exhibits at the prestigious annual food and drink festival including chefs from Billy Kwong and Longrain. Experts will include local horticulturalists, the City’s green roofs and walls project officer and industry leaders from Foodwise and the Royal Agricultural Society.
Workshops will cover topics such as the benefits of growing food at home, how to make a successful worm farm, facts about food waste, and how to create a green wall at home.
A temporary green wall will be installed at the site for inspiration and there will be information available about the Green Villages program. Free seed packets will be handed out to help visitors get their green wall or garden started.
Rootstock Sydney will be held at the Carriageworks, Eveleigh on February 8 and 9. For more information about the event go to rootstocksydney.com
