Make a difference as a Conservation Volunteer in Porirua!
Help keep up the momentum
Thompsons Gully, Porirua
Sunday 23rd February 9:30m -1:30pm
This is one of our regular sites and great work is taking place. We’ll continue along this tranquil gully as we listen to the sounds of the birds and the trickling stream. Our mission will be to control vines and climbers, such as bind weed and blackberry, which threaten to smother the native canopy. By removing these species we are helping the natural regeneration of the area. Help us tackle these invasive creepers!
Restore this unique oasis
Bothamley Park, Porirua
Tuesday 25th February 9:30am – 2:30pm
Bothamley Park is Porirua’s second largest reserve and is known as the ‘Green Heart’ of Porirua. The Kenepuru Stream runs through this idyllic park, and in a recent fish survey, the rare Shortjaw Kokopu was discovered there. We will be working along the stream edges to help preserve the biodiversity found here. Target weeds include honeysuckle, bind weed and ivy. Join us at this hidden jewel.
Reconnect with the Ocean this Seaweek
Beach TBC
Sunday 9th March 10am – 1:30pm
Help keep our waterways clean. Marine litter, particularly plastic, is a global concern with research estimating the presence of plastic rubbish at 20,000 pieces per square kilometre of the world’s oceans. Marine litter has a major impact on wildlife who either become caught in the rubbish or mistake it for food for themselves and their young. Please join us as we minimise the damaging effects on our aquatic environment. Join us for a BBQ lunch afterwards.
Catch a lift with us. We can provide transport to any of our projects from a central location in Wellington or Porirua.
