Sustainability film-making workshops available for all young New Zealanders

Submitted by on May 4, 2014 – 12:14 pm

the-outlook-for-someday-2013-auckland-maori-focused-workshop_595This year’s series of The Outlook for Someday free sustainability film-making workshops will reach more young New Zealanders than ever.

35 one-day regional workshops will take place throughout the country between May and August, making them accessible to all young New Zealanders wherever they live. Two additional one-day workshops are planned with a focus towards Pasifika young people and five two-day workshops will be for rangatahi Māori.

The workshops are part of The Outlook for Someday film project, which supports young people to make films about the things that matter to them.

Every participant in a workshop will make a short film that screens at the end of the day. They will also come away with story ideas that are meaningful to them which they can create into further films.

Each workshop runs from 9am to 4.30pm and is open to young people from school years 7 to 13 as well as teachers and youth workers.

Spaces are limited to 25 participants per workshop.

Students, teachers and youth workers are invited to register for a workshop in their area.www.theoutlookforsomeday.net/workshops

Now in its 8th year, The Outlook for Someday is New Zealand’s sustainability film project for young people. It includes an annual film challenge and a national series of sustainability film-making workshops. 1089 young people participated in the film challenge and workshops in 2013.

“The objective of The Outlook for Someday is to help empower young people as storytellers of significance,” said David Jacobs, Director of Connected Media, the charitable trust which runs the project.

“Young people lead the rest of society as digital natives. The workshops and film challenge encourage them to use their skills and develop their own distinctive voice as storytellers. We don’t just see young film-makers as creating products. We seem them as culture builders.”

The Outlook for Someday film challenge asks young people aged up to 24 to make a short sustainability-related film of any genre, filmed with any camera and any length up to 5 minutes. The entry deadline in 2014 is 12 September.

At the end of the year The Someday Awards red-carpet ceremony will take place for the fourth year running at the Aotea Centre in Auckland.
