Weekend news hug: Tune into the joyous, heart warming, thought provoking radio World of Leopold Bloom
Ok, here’s a radio based news hug. You may have never heard of Leopold Bloom, but if you have the time to listen to this multi-award winning show (perhaps while you make some kai?) please, take this opportunity! This one’s based at WOMAD New Zealand and the whole show is full of heart, and amazing music.
Around 80 minutes into the show we meet the Malawi Mouse Boys. You have GOT to listen to their music. You JUST HAVE TO. They not only make their own music, but they make their own instruments. And their music is joyous. Their story reminded me to be grateful for the things in life that I take for granted such as running water and abundant foods, particularly protein. They are named the Malawi Mouse Boys because they catch mice for protein.
The World of Leopold Bloom has been a finalist in The New Zealand Radio Awards for seven consecutive years and won its category in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014.
It’s hosted on Fresh FM, Nelson’s community radio station and they say it “celebrates the very best in music and musicians from all around the world, presented in an entertaining and creative style.”
“Leopold takes you on a journey, painting pictures with sound, celebrating a world of music, poetry, culture, film, art, literature and out of nowhere the magic of a radio show is born!”
Sending you a warm weekend hug from Golden Bay, Aotearoa, New Zealand.
