How to Get Started as at Sports Betting in New Zealand

How to Get Started as a Sports Betting in New Zealand Sports betting is one of the most popular pastimes in the world, especially in New Zealand where it is estimated that $100 million is wagered on sports every week.
Let’s run through the basics and see if we can get key information right!

What Is Sports Betting?

Sports betting is like button bowling, except instead of individual pins you have pins that point to specific teams and contests. In other words, a rugby match, a World cup game, a rugby league game etc. The “empire” is typically the sponsor, sometimes the bettor is the sponsor too and they decide on a result (but typically, in Australia, the supporters decide on the outcome, rather than the administrators etc).

Everyone participating in the bet is known as a bettor. Download a map or city-specific result sheet and you have everything you need to start your sports betting career online.

Where Can I Place My Sports Bet?

Betting on a sport online isn’t much different than betting in any other online form, including the traditional sportsbook. However, there are some key differences. Online bets have nothing to do with the actual game. For example, bettors aren’t comparing apples and apples when considering which player is faster than another.

There are no goals or assists, and results can change very quickly in non-linearly tied games. Betting online has its unique campaign management issues as well. You need to ensure there is enough money in the betting account (or bankroll) for each bet you plan to make.

Sports Betting Odds Explained

This means that the sportsbook is taking a cut of the amount bet on each side of the game. For example, let’s say a sportsbook offers the following odds for a game: Team A -1.5 (+110) Team B +1.5 (-130) If you bet $100 on Team A, you will win $110.If you bet $100 on Team B, you will win $130. However, if you bet $100 on one team and $200 on the other, then you are actually paying $100 on Team A and $200 on Team B (or vice versa).

The difference in payouts can be huge, up to 50% higher than an amateur on the losing side. Given the amount mentioned above about the payouts for a different type of bet, you might think that it is a pretty worthless bet.

However, remember that no one is to blame but also not a fool either. If you are losing a bet, neither the book nor the sportsbook is. The market is what it is, so learn from it and improve upon whatever you can as well!

Another thing about odd payouts is that the sportsbook isn’t making money on a lot of bets! It’s the animal in us that envies a winnings amount that’s far more than the next best person! When you take into account that the game is still in the middle of the game, and the odds are shared equally, you can see why it is easier to effect a win there.

Reviewing Odds When looking at odds for different sports, you should be looking not at the easy wins but at the tougher odds. For example, you may think that there is an even chance that one team will score more than an even number in the game. If Team A is losing 7–8, and Team B is losing 9–10, you might be tempted to bet Team A even. But if the game goes even, you will only enter if Team A is losing, and Team B isn’t, so you want to avoid those rare occasions.

How to Pick the Winner of the Game?

There’s a huge difference between the teams with the best players and the teams that win the game. In the NFL, the best teams are usually the ones with the best quarterbacks. In college football, it’s the teams with the best running backs who win the most games. In the NBA, the teams with great coaches win the most games. So how do you become the best team in your sports league?

I have an excellent theory that it boils down to the difference between offence and defence. The difference between an average team and a great one is how well they play offence versus defence. Early on in my betting career, I was a defensive coach. Who’s going to stop the runner?

So I had to balance my strategy and play a little offence as well. I realized I hated having to play defence when I was coaching because it always felt boring and not that fun. I couldn’t explain it except that I prefer to win the games. Winning the games gives me more enjoyment than losing the games.

It seemed like a logical conclusion that if I was going to be successful at coaching, I would have to play offence as well. That was a theory for the pros. There are also sports that are decided by pitching but other than that I guarantee the difference between a good team and a great team is the difference between offence and defence.

So what are the differences between offence and defence? Well, an offence requires great running backs, plays as a team and overall team leadership. An offence provides the big play, like a pass, that can help your quarterback throw for a touchdown or gain a lot of additional yards. Defence, on the other hand, focuses on the individual player. It’s protection, tackling and changing angles that determine whether or not you get a clean tackle.
