365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – 293 – Wild Energy’s Happy (Fascinating) Conclusion

Submitted by on February 14, 2011 – 10:00 am

It’s been all on folks – the judges made their decision about Wild Energy and chose not one but a cluster of winners.  True to Happyzine form we went all creative and decided to do the group win thing.  It’s been more than a year – setting up Wild Energy and now here we are, finally.  I’ll post up an article about the whole exciting story tomorrow, here’s part of it:

“The judges rated the entries ‘Wind Power’, ‘Zero Energy Town House’, ‘Energy Conservation: roof vent’ and ‘Reduce home use by instaling home PV and wind generation’ as the most feasible green designs. The Most Highly Commended Wild Energy certificate goes to ‘Wind Power’ by Power House Wind. Three Highly Commended certificates go to: ‘Zero Energy Town House’, ‘Energy Conservation: roof vent’ and ‘Reduce home use by instaling home PV and wind generation'”

And here’s a really interesting point that came out of the challenge:

“The judges said that the most important contribution to getting more sustainable energy generation and innovation in New Zealand was the introduction of Feed in Tariffs, which was submitted as commentary to the judges, rather than an entry to the competition Stephan Huebeck, spokesperson for the charitable trust REFIT New Zealand, sent a letter about the FiT scheme as a non-entry comment to the judges of Wild Energy. He said that small scale, localised green energy schemes that fed back into national power grids were the best way forward. He said they had been implemented successfully, long term, and at at no extra cost to consumers in over sixty states and territories world-wide.”

Stay tuned for more about this … as for me, it’s been a long day.  I’m now going to attempt to un-suck from the computer and head to bed.

Over and out.
