365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – Blog#150 – Meet Nic Marks – Wellbeing Researcher

Submitted by on September 17, 2010 – 6:00 pm

Did you know that Costa Rica is officially the happiest, greenest country on earth?  Check out the video below for information about how and why.  I just discovered Ted.com – the online platform for ideas worth sharing.  Nic Marks has a post on Ted called The Happy Planet Index.  He and I are in agreeance about many things, though he’s a statistician and I’m a writer.  He says that environmentalists need encouragement, positivity and vision to guide them.  Right on Nic.

Some of the research that Nic’s been involved in has uncovered five ways to well-being.  Here’s the related website.  The five ways are:

Connect – our relationships with people are the most important aspects of our lives – keep them maintained

Be active – if you’re in a bad mood, get up and do something, you’ll feel better immediately

Take notice – be aware of what’s going on around you

Keep learning – follow your curiosity

Give – one study showed that of two groups who were give money, the one’s who gave it to someone else were happier at the end of the day than those who kept it.

Cool, I’m feeling inspired!

Here’s Nic on youtube:
