365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – Blog#182 – The Half-Way Mark: Hope and Kindness
Well here I am, half-way through my 365 days of Fun and Chillaxation. I love my daily blog. So far I’ve launched our Dream2Reality opportunity, launched Wild Energy, have kept Happyzine churning out the good vibes each day, have sent out the weekly ezine each Monday, launched Club HZ (somebody please join it) and have written my first ebook (which should be officially released next week!!!) and more. How close am I to my goal of attracting 100,000 people to sign up to Happyzine? One percent! I’ve got just under 1000 subscribers. I still think I can do it! I’ve got another 182 days to go, so much can happen in one day, let alone 181 others. I’m excited about my ebook, it’s going to be fun sending out its happy green message to people world-wide. So onto today’s blog …
One of the things I most like about being alive is those special acts of kindness that we humans share from time to time. Those tummy warming, heart opening, tear inducing moments when one person offers another just exactly what they need.
Today, for me, it was jumper leads. With a car battery charger thrown in just in case.
My son Kahu loves playing in my car and particularly enjoys turning all the lights and then getting out of the car and carefully shutting the doors. So it was that a few days ago I put the keys in my ignition and turned, to not-so-sweet silence. We stayed home that day. And our car sat ignored in the driveway (Cuban style).
I took to jogging to the supermarket with Kahu in the push chair and Maia gagging to be let off her lead (so she could run to the river) at my side. I enjoyed strolling to other vital amenities such as play centre and the DVD shop. My world shrunk. I realised that my life has the capacity to exist within a five km radius. Not that I want it to. Yes I know it’s the greenest way – but it’s not for me. I’ve got work to do all over the world (in the greenest way I can possibly come up with).
On the other hand, as I was strolling the streets of Takaka my mind was often still in the outer reaches of cyber space after great sessions of throwing out Wild Energy press releases to (and I quote myself) “every Tom, Dick and Harry” (my thanks to Gran for that phrase).
Yes it’s an interesting existence. I’m sure many of us share it. I live in a small community, yet each day I commune with people who live in all manner of far flung places. My mind travels thousands of miles each day. Whilst my body remains right here in this sea-side valley.
So back to the battery chargers. Today I walked my street looking for some one to ask if I could borrow a set of jumper leads. I found him right at the end of the street. He was sitting outside in the sun reading a book. He very kindly lead me to his garage, found me every thing I’d need and insisted that I took my time returning the gear. I left his place with a warm feeling in my heart. It is so the little things.
As I was strolling down the street swinging my jumper leads, my friend Anna – tall, blondish, Zumba queen, viking-like mother of four (see picture above) – turned up to help with her jumper leads. Anna is one of those competent fix-it women who builds her own fences and goes hunting and fishing. She didn’t buy into all the fuss about letting the men do that stuff, not our Anna. She was the perfect friend to turn up. My son’s father was nudged kindly out of the way as the Anna-Charlotte team kicked into gear. Results were achieved quickly. During those sweet moments of jump starting my dead car I reveled in the feeling of receiving kindness, when I most needed help. I nearly danced with the joy of it. But not quite, instead I drove off to get a Warrant of Fitness. Which was fun too, in a different way.
