MEDIA RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
12th December 2012

Inspiration & Invitation at this month’s TEDxTeAro – Videos available to watch now!

The inaugural TEDxTeAro event took place this weekend in Wellington and conference-goers came away buzzing.

With the TEDx 100-ticket limit selling out in just 30 minutes, there was clearly plenty of anticipation for the event in the Capital on 1 December, and feedback was glowing for the event. Event attendees said the speakers were varied, powerful and inspiring.

“We had a great volunteer organising team behind the first TEDxTeAro event, and I was delighted at how the speakers performed on the day. It seemed like there was a great buzz in the room and in our networking hub after. I’m keen to see whether people are keen for a repeat in 2013.” said DK, TEDxTeAro licence holder and organizer.

The speakers ranged from adventure coach Sarah Wilson who talked about her experience surviving an avalanche, to executive director of Hikurangi Foundation, Alex Hannant, inviting the audience to be unreasonable and consider how Social Enterprise can lift people out of poverty. All of the videos are already online, and can be viewed by visiting the TEDxTeAro website: tedxtearo.com/videos

For those who missed out on tickets, the event was livestreamed into the TEDxTeAro website and event Partner & Sponsor Facebook pages – the first time a TEDx event in the Southern Hemisphere used this technology, which Catalyst90 provided.

“We were pretty happy that an additional 200 people could join us on the day through the livesteam to watch the talks and interact with the event through Twitter” says Tom Reidy, CEO of Catalyst90.

The TEDxTeAro team confirmed they were keen to do it again via a tweet from licensee DK, and there’s talk of smaller ‘Salon sessions’ to keep up the momentum, share the inspiration and get to work on the invitation laid down by the speakers.  If you’re keen to be involved, sign up to the newsletter, join the facebook page, or follow @tedxtearo on twitter.

TED is a nonprofit devoted to “ideas worth spreading”, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes, and has exploded onto the world stage in recent years.
