365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – Blog 225 – Holiday Leads to Increased Hug Factor

Submitted by on December 6, 2010 – 10:50 pm

I’m on holiday with my son.  And today’s best moments, without a doubt, have been cuddling him.  Because the great thing is – he wants to cuddle me and I want to cuddle him.  Back in my pre-holiday day to day existence (as in yesterday) quite often one of us was on a mission when the other wanted a hug.  And quite often these days my son is cuddling his Dad because he’s three now and his father’s gradually phased into becoming immensely cool and well worth spending all his time with.  Sigh.  I must admit it took a little getting used too, the new stage.  But I was ok about it … mostly.  It’s an adjustment for a Mama though, after three intense years of breast feeding, sleeplessness, endless cuddles, more breastfeeding, and being the centre of her son’s universe.  But a good adjustment – he’s becoming a secure young boy.  Today though, we both had free time ’cause big Daddy the revered one was no where to be seen.  Yep, it was just a Mama and her son … and a few cousins and Aunties and Uncles.  I’d entered fully into my lounging holiday state, and my boy found he could clamber up onto me when ever he liked and gain my full and delighted attention.  The other thing that really put things in perspective for me today was watching the movie ‘My sister’s keeper’.  Mamamia.  Have you seen it? It’s the story of the girl who was created to help her cancerous sister live.  It’s a tear jerker.  And I found myself looking at my son feeling so very grateful for his good health, for his strong, robust little body, for his cheeky smiles.  Now he’s asleep and I nearly was too until I remembered I’d forgotten to write this blog for the day.  I tried to ignore it and roll over to continue falling asleep, but the realisation came at me hard, and then guilt threatened to toss it’s perfumed blond mane in my face, so I  just couldn’t not write it.  I have a record to maintain (apart from that one blog I still have to make up).  So I got up, padded into the silent living room and here I am squinting at the lap-top without my contact lenses in as the household sleeps.  So now you know how it all went – the best bits.  How about you?  I’d love to know about your best parts of the day, no matter what day it is.
