365 Days of Fun and Chillaxation – 305 – Blonde and Brunette Let Their Hair Down at the Beach

Submitted by on February 26, 2011 – 6:00 pm

What is it about Saturdays and Sundays?  Even when I work on these days I always feel far more relaxed and easy about life.   Today I headed to the beach with my main bitch Maia.  Yeah, me ‘n my dog took a little time out from our hectic social lives here in the ‘burbs of down-town Takaka.  We let our hair down on Rototai Beach – where a girl can take her dog and not get fined, and where the beach at low-tide stretches so far into the distance you can’t see the actual ocean.  Yeah.  It was chillaxation time.

Maia headed for some nice look’n deep water.  It was the kind of water that a Golden Retriever could really dive into and get her coat all wet without having to worry about hitting the bottom.  It was one of those rivers with a good current, the kind that could take a dog down-stream fast if that was where she wanted to go, or push hard against her if she needed a little work-out.  It had a nice range of birds hanging out near by for her to half-halfheartedly chase, plus a good assortment of drift-wood sticks on hand, the kind that would float down-stream just in case a dog needed to pretend her owner (who had headed else where) had thrown her a stick.

As for me, I had everything I needed:  solitude (but not quite, thanks to my dog friend), clean fresh sea-air, and plenty of time.  I pointed my body north, dropped my head, and trudged.  When I say ‘trudge’ I mean ‘determined, bordering on eager trudge’.  Yes, I know, it’s weird to see the words ‘eager’ and ‘trudge’ in the same sentence, but it’s my blog so I can take liberties.  My sandals sank deep into the sand, adding that extra-effort factor that would later render the walk actual exercise and Rototai Beach took care of everything else.  Before I knew it extra canny business ideas were coursing through my mind, happiness settled in my heart, and my body had relaxed.  I had the usual thoughts of ‘why don’t I do this more often?’ and ‘God I’m glad I live here.’

My main-dog Maia (who maintained a steady 200 metre parallel distance from me during the entire walk) and I eventually re-joined forces and headed back to the kennel/car.  We were both a little tired, both smiling slightly, and our girlie spirits were high.  Maia had gotten in some good river-side scent following missions, and I’d had some nice ‘me’ time.  It was time to face the world again, Maia had a food bowl to check and I had work.  And so we did, united, a blond and a brunette, on a mission to have fun and chilllax anytime, any place.
