Natural Dog Shampoo Bar for Dogs (That Repels Fleas and Leaves a Shiny Coat)

Submitted by on November 20, 2011 – 7:48 pm 2 Comments

Review by Charlotte Squire

Recently I visited the local vet clinic to talk fleas.  My Golden Retriever had caught them from a cat (a lovely cat, so I shall not curse him) and I was on the hunt for a natural flea remedy.  There was nothing available, and so I ended up breaking out the big guns and spending a might eighty dollars on one of the bigger, hard-core ‘best not to touch this stuff’ brands.  Sigh.  I really didn’t want to use it on my dog.  But I needed to get on top of the flea issue.  Well, to cut a long story short, the expensive stuff didn’t work.  Neither did the flea shampoo, the flea collar, or the flea powder that I also bought in my mission to de-flea my lovely dog.  The only thing those products succeeded in doing was making me feel like I was getting a cold for an hour or two.  Sigh.

The vet lady said because we hadn’t had a frost here in Golden Bay people were really struggling with the little critters.  I eventually bought a fine flea comb and had to make do with constant vacuuming and flea combing to keep them at bay.

And then I got to chatting to Sue Rutherford.  Sue is the Source Living natural soap queen.  She mentioned she had a Natural Dog Shampoo Bar that repelled fleas.  By this stage I’d really had enough of all the laborious combing and vacuuming so I excitedly grabbed the opportunity to try her soap.  I’d heard of Neem oil, which was the key ingredient, and I was keen to give it a whirl.

I set to work using the hose and the bar of Neem smelling soap on my very unimpressed dog.  Yes, poor Maia kept  trying to exit, but exit she could not!  I was on mission to head those fleas off at the pass, for good!  And praise the gods, guess what happened?  The fleas, yes, they did appear.  They floated to the surface of all the Neemy, soapy lather and I was able to wash them away.  I’d never seen it happen like that before.  I don’t know whether those fleas were stunned or dead, but away they went to reincarnate as grass!

Oh Neem oil how I worship thee.  Oh Natural Dog Shampoo Bar, you’ve been the blessing Maia and I have been waiting for.  Well more me actually.  Maia’s very in the moment.

So I googled Neem oil and it said that the oil should stay on the dog’s fur for a while afterwards repelling and further flea action.  Neem oil is also said to repel ticks and mosquitos.   It also improves skin health and the coat of the dog.

I must say at this stage that this soap isn’t marketed as a remedy for fleas (even thought it is one), on the label it says “Natural Dog Shampoo low allergy formula soothes dry, itchy skin, repels fleas naturally and leaves a glossy coat.”  Neem oil’s also good at repelling head-lice, and Sue says you can use it on humans, just in case anyone needed to read that.

Sue said that she consulted with a vet during the creation of her Natural Dog Shampoo Bar recipe to ensure she used all dog-friendly ingredients.  Then she tried it out on her very own dog and it worked a treat.  Sue said that she enjoyed all the compliments she received about her dog’s shiny coat when they were out on walks and she also said her dog never got fleas.

As you can tell, I’m sold on Source Living’s Natural Dog Shampoo Bar.  In fact tomorrow I’m going to contact our local vet clinic to rave about it.  Dog owners, I highly recommend you stock up on a few bars of this soap now, it’s best used as a preventative!

For flea prevention I have just purchased some Billy No Mates Flea protection, this is natural based with neem etc. It came through customs being opened but okay. This had great reviews. theneemteam.co.uk. They also have natural worming tincture.
