Britanny Packer’s ‘Backyard Bee’

Submitted by on January 8, 2012 – 9:55 pm
Brittany Packer is one of New Zealand’s young environmental leaders, we like to keep up to date with the latest green success stories for Britanny and this one’s a goody!

Last year I started working as a Teacher Aide in a local primary school, Clifton Terrace Model School. It’s a really awesome job, and it encouraged me to consider education as my career. As you might know, I’ve been involved in various projects about intergenerational change and long-term planning for sustainability. And I was amped to connect these passions, because I view the environment and education as being in a serious, long-term relationship.

So with some funding from Earthcare, which is the company I worked for last year, I have created a new project. It’s called the Backyard Bee. We run this online forum to host ideas about environmental education in New Zealand, which can be useful for teachers, principals, parents, Council members, members of Government, non-governmental organizations, young people, and anyone else passionate about education and a cleaner, greener, future.

You can check us out at www.backyardbee.co.nz, and please sign up to our free email magazine, which is just a snippet of ideas and stories from the field.

And I’d really appreciate if we could all help to spread the word about the site and email magazine, because it will only work effectively when we have a real community of people on board. So if you’re keen to flick this email onto your colleagues and friends, or put up a Facebook post, I’d give you a virtual hug and yiippeee!

Happy new year! I hope you are all fantastic and enjoying the summer!
